Memory Supplements: Evidence, Ingredients & Buying Guide

Memory supplements range from single nutrients and botanicals to multi-ingredient nootropic formulas. Marketing is broad; evidence is ingredient- and outcome-specific.

Health information: This site is educational and does not provide medical advice. Dietary supplements can have side effects and interactions. Discuss supplement use with a qualified healthcare professional, especially if you take medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a medical condition.

What counts as a memory supplement?

It is a marketing category rather than a guarantee of effect. Products may contain botanicals, phospholipids, amino-acid derivatives, vitamins or other compounds positioned around memory, focus or cognitive support.

What does the evidence say overall?

NCCIH notes that many supplements are promoted for memory or brain function, but direct evidence that dietary supplements prevent Alzheimer's disease or other dementias is lacking. That does not mean every ingredient has identical evidence; it means disease-prevention conclusions should not be inferred from general supplement marketing.
